I discovered that 1000s of bots are actively monitoring X for new links posted, probably not just on my account I noticed when everytime I'd share one of my sites new features or pages, the page would get a bit slower just after posting, then I asked Claude to analyze it I tweeted a test URL as a reply somewhere deeply hidden in a thread (so not even a main post) And within 8 seconds there's thousands of crawlers opening the page! One is a military intelligence firm, that scans social media for breaking news and sells alerts to newsrooms, banks, companies and government, it specifically follows accounts with many followers Another one is a social media monitoring company that tracks what people say online I knew of course high frequency trading firms use online news to trade fast on things, but interesting to see it in real life Twitterbot (X) of course is first, within 0 seconds of sharing, it opens it (probably when I wrote the tweet) The first non-X bot arrives just 8.40s later, which I think is pretty fast considering it's a reply by me deeply hidden in a thread somewhere TL;DR they're watching you!

Same with people who do scheduled posts It's like listening to an answering machine recording instead of having a real life conversation with someone It's impersonal and already outdated when you see it I prefer just posting when I feel like it and have something fun to share or comment on something I see here and then talk with people who reply, it's more like a chat There's something about people who are so eager to be famous, they do this whole scheduling thing and on multiple platforms and I don't know, I don't think that's the future People want realness and authenticity, and that's been in short supply forever, it was the same on here a decade ago, most people can't be real

I’ve come to the realization that X might be the least toxic space for a woman in tech. I was recently featured in a @wsj_com article about solo founders, and it was one of the few bits of media I’ve done that has escaped containment: posts on Facebook, high school friends, random relatives, etc. seem to all have been served the article on social and pinged me nice notes & links. And WOW the public comments on gen pop social posts were a very unwelcome reminder on what it’s like to put yourself out there as a female entrepreneur: being called a fraud, reprimanded to put mothering first, called a liar, presuming “tech exec” is code for “low level product owner”, calling me a no-nothing MBA fake (what?), calling me a Bay Area baby born with a silver spoon (what??!), denigrating my technical chops, comments that my only advantage is being hot, or a TikTok influencer, and getting LinkedIn connections from men asking how I stay looking 25 in my 40s 🫠 Anyway I could not be more grateful for this hellsite where you all take me at face value, I can share honest experiences and thoughts, debate in relative good faith, beep boop my AI hacks, laugh, and only occasionally poke the trolls. I never thought I’d say this: but X is the place I get the most respect online as a leader, engineer, and mom. What a world. If only we could get rid of the AI reply guys and fix search, this might be heaven.
