We all wanted to make this but the problem was Google owned the 3d data and charged a lot for it You made a web game using Google's 3d tiles and quickly your bill would be $10,000 Microsoft Flight Simulator runs on Microsoft's Bing Maps 3d data so that's why they can do it Now I hope Google gets more serious about this and adds real plane models and multiplayer with combat (Microsoft's Flight Simulator never allows that) which would be super fun

holy crap! apple just beat google to the punch -- 3d gaussian splatting is coming to apple maps. these 3d scenes are made from oblique aerial imagery. but unlike blobby photogrammetry -- no more broccoli trees, no more melted powerlines -- ground level detail that actually holds up. here's hoping google maps/earth follows suite soon -- they have a significantly larger corpus of sensor data to work with. time to splat the world!
